Background
The parent company of Community Insurance Corporation,
the Wisconsin County Mutual Insurance Corporation, (County
Mutual) was created in response to a crisis in the
commercial insurance industry in 1985. Counties were
forced to purchase insurance from a limited commercial
market with reduced levels of protection and increased
costs.
In 1988, the County Mutual began operation with 24
owner counties. Today over 75 percent of counties in the
state belong to the County Mutual, which carries an A.M.
Best Rating of A-.
"Similar to the commercial crisis counties faced
back in the 80's, local governments and school districts
are now facing similar problems with many companies
getting out of the commercial market all together. The
time is ripe for another player in the commercial
insurance market and Community Insurance Corporation
stands poised to make substantial market impacts to local
governments and school districts."
